Reading Notes: Japanese Mythology, Part B
The Romance of Old Japan by E.W. Champney and F. Champney
Part B of the Japanese mythology had the common theme of following Yamato and continuing his story throughout the unit. Yamato has a quest, like many other mythologies, that takes him on his adventures in search of his prize. I liked how in part B, the first story began with a poem, setting the tone for the rest of the story. I thought the use of the siren was clever because it is a very common character to have in any kind of mythology, yet the hero always falls for the sirens tricks.
