The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi
If I was to retell this story I think I might make it a prequel. Geppetto, the creator of Pinocchio, could have been a puppet in a different life as well and became a real boy ad lived his life as any man would. Because of this, he is on a journey to find out exactly how it happened and it leads him to creating Pinocchio.
Cinderella by Heidi Ann Heiner
In the original story of Cinderella, we all know that she is a commoner who is a servant to her stepmother. If I was to rewrite this story, I might make Cinderella royalty to begin with but she is miserable and tries to run away connecting the original story to mine with her glass slipper being left behind.
The Stepmother by Heidi Ann Heiner
If used this story, I think that I would retell it from the perspective of the father as he has a little roll in the original story. I would really try to dive deep in the emotions that he portrays and how is torn between his children and his new wife and stepdaughter.
