The Difference Between Praise and Feedback
Growing up, I feel as though our generation was used to receiving feedback whether it be positive or negative because thats how our parents raised us. However, today it seems as though parents are increasingly praising their children when they need to be equipping them to take constructive criticism. This is why I chose this article. As stated in the article, when a child is constantly being praised, they are promoting a fixed mindset they they can either do no wrong, or they can only earn your praise by doing something a certain way. This is why feedback is so important to introduce and promote a growth mindset throughout childhood.
Why Do So Many Managers Avoid Giving Praise?
Even in the workplace feedback is dreaded because individuals believe feedback to be criticism. When I say dreaded I'm talking about dreaded by all parties involved. Managers just want to get giving feedback over as soon as possible and eve lose sleep over what is needed to be said to their employees. Feedback has a negative connotation to it, but we need to understand as a society that feedback is all about making improvements.
