Feedback Thoughts
The two articles I chose about feedback are A fixed mindset could be holding you back, and Rewire your self-critical brain.
As I read through these articles, I thought about my own views on feedback. I am a performer, so I was lucky enough to learn how to take negative feedback as early as three years old. I think that getting critiques on your work is an extremely important step to bettering yourself and your craft, whatever it my be. I am very independent, so feedback works best for me when I give myself my own feedback and then an outsider reiterates it. When I am the person giving feedback, one of my favorite methods is a compliment sandwich. You give your negative feedback right in between two compliments or positive feedback.
In the first article, I read about fixed mindsets. When receiving feedback, a fixed mindset will do you no good. In order for feedback or critiques to be successful, one must keep an open mind and understand that the person providing you with feedback is trying to help you grow and be the best you can be.
In the second article, it talks about the harms of being overly self-critical. Everyone has their own critic inside of them, but one needs to learn how to let it be their motivation, rather than their demise. Personally, I am my own biggest critic, as are most people. However, I am also my biggest motivator. I try to use my self-doubt and worries to push myself to work harder whether that be in school, dance, or other aspects of life.
